Keelung is Taiwan's second largest port and northernmost city. While some compare the climate to Seattle, the mistiness is a perfect accent to Keelung's history filled with pirates, sailors, and invaders. The main sight here is the Guanyin statue in Jungjeng Park. The 22m white God of Mercy sits on a pedestal enabling her to watch over the city. Browse some of the old forts left over from previous settlements or some of the coastal parks. Be sure to try some of the gourmet seafood popular in the area. You can also take a walk down Miaokou night market where you will find no shortage of great street snacks.
