Confucian Temple    Tainan, Tainan County

Tainan's Confucian Temple is the oldest in the country and was built in 1665 by Koxinga's son, Cheng Ching. The temple was meant to be the center of the Chinese cultural renaissance and was built in a classical Chinese architectural style rarely found on the island. It has been restored 16 times since it was first built and is the most prominent shrine to Confucius on the island. The grounds also contain one of the largest and most beautiful banyan trees in Taiwan where you can sit and meditate on your own.
